LexisNexis doesn’t put a single price on its legal research. What you pay depends on your plan, how many attorneys use it, and how long you commit. For small firms, LexisNexis does publish monthly prices in its online store. Here’s what each plan costs, what happens at renewal, and how to pay less.

Short answer: For one attorney, LexisNexis lists Lexis+ plans from $152 to $432 a month on a 1-year term, with discounts for 2- or 3-year commitments. After your term ends, the agreement renews every year at the then-current rate plus 5% unless you give 30 days’ written notice. One law firm we worked with cut its LexisNexis bill 52%.

What drives your LexisNexis price

Your plan and content

State-only research costs far less than federal or 50-state access. On a 1-year term, Professional costs nearly three times as much as Essential.

Number of attorneys

Pricing is per authorized user. Under LexisNexis’s online store terms, if your number of authorized users changes, LexisNexis can raise or lower your monthly payment by up to the same percentage.

How long you commit

On the store, a 2-year commitment is listed at 10% off and a 3-year commitment at 25% off. A longer term lowers the monthly price, but it also locks you in.

What happens when your LexisNexis contract renews

This is where costs creep up. Under the LexisNexis online store terms, after your committed term ends, the agreement automatically renews each year for another one-year period at the then-current monthly rate plus 5%. To avoid renewing, you have to give written notice through your LexisNexis account manager at least 30 days before the renewal term begins.

Here’s what that looks like: at $432 a month, a 5% renewal increase makes it $453.60 a month, or $259.20 more per year. And the lower promotional prices on the store are for new customers only.

If your firm signed a custom agreement with LexisNexis sales, your renewal terms may be different, so check your order form.

How to lower your LexisNexis bill

1. Find your renewal date and notice deadline

Pull your order form and note when your term ends. Put the 30-day notice deadline on your calendar, so renewal doesn’t happen on autopilot.

2. Check what you actually use

If your attorneys rarely use federal caselaw, Law360, or CourtLink, you may be paying for a bigger plan than you need.

3. Match users to your team

Remove licenses for attorneys who have left or don’t use LexisNexis. Since pricing is per user, every unused seat costs you money.

4. Compare your rate to current prices

Compare your monthly rate to the prices LexisNexis lists today. If you’re paying well above them, that’s your starting point for negotiating.

5. Ask for a lower rate and waived increases, in writing

Ask for a lower monthly rate and for future increases to be waived or capped. Get any agreement in writing before your renewal date.

What this looks like with a real LexisNexis bill

Kobren Law, a personal injury firm, was paying $470 a month for LexisNexis. We cut its monthly spend 52%, right-sized its plan, and got its rate increases waived for three years, without switching research platforms.

When to hand it off

Negotiating with a legal research vendor takes time most firms would rather bill. We review your LexisNexis invoices and contract, negotiate directly with LexisNexis, and keep your research tools the same. We also review up to 36 months of past invoices to recover overcharges you’ve already paid. See how we lower software bills, or read how to handle software price increases.

You keep 60% of every dollar saved, there’s no upfront fee, and if we find no savings, you pay nothing.
