Republic Services Bill Cut From $906 to $194 a Month
The Problem:
Delorie Countertops & Doors, a manufacturer with 10 to 15 employees in Pompano Beach, Florida, was paying Republic Services $906 a month for trash pickup. The invoice was hard to follow, with no clear breakdown of what each charge was for. When we asked Republic’s finance department to lower it, they said there was “no room for reduction.”
What We Discovered:
So we dug into the contract history. Three years earlier, Delorie had accepted a promotional rate that was supposed to last 12 months. After just 90 days, Republic raised the rate 38%, and Delorie kept paying the higher rate for three years. Delorie had also been billed for pick-ups that were missed.
We took that history back to Republic. The bill came down from $906 to $194 a month, with the same hauler and the same pickup schedule, and Republic refunded $1,425 for the missed pick-ups.
The Results:
- Monthly bill cut 78%, from $906 to $194
- $1,425 refunded for missed pick-ups, about 7 months of service at the new rate
- $27,057 saved over the 3-year term
- Same hauler, same pickup schedule
How the $27,057 adds up:
| Republic Services bill | Monthly | 3-year term |
|---|---|---|
| Before | $906 | $32,616 |
| After | $194 | $6,984 |
| Saved | $712 | $25,632 |
| Missed pick-up refund | $1,425 | |
| Total saved | $27,057 |
The Lesson:
Rate increases are easy to miss. Republic’s fee disclosures say notice of a rate increase “may be in the form of an invoice message and/or change on your invoice.” Delorie’s promotional rate was raised nine months early, and the higher rate ran for three years before anyone caught it. That’s why we review up to 36 months of past invoices, not just the current bill.
“Working with CostFixers has been fantastic. They negotiated our trash bill for significant savings and explained how it supports our long-term goals. Professional, proactive, and truly invested in their clients’ success—we highly recommend them.”
